As part of our mission, to help as many people as possible either through our business or charity, Dragonfly CBD is running an awareness campaign coinciding with World Mental Health Day.

On Saturday 10th October, people around the world will be marking World Mental Health Day. It’s a global event designed to raise awareness about mental health issues. Many people suffer from conditions like anxiety and depression that have serious impacts on their lives.

World Mental Health Day aims to achieve two big goals. Firstly, it intends to educate people about mental health issues. Secondly, and most importantly, it serves to remove feelings of shame or embarrassment about talking about them.

Why talking about anxiety is important for treating it

Mental health problems affect one in four people. Yet, there remains the perception of an ingrained societal bias against people who suffer. This causes many who suffer to be afraid to talk about their worries, emotions or fears.

For people with mental health problems, such as anxiety, not feeling like they can speak about it remains a major barrier. Opening up about anxiety enables people to truly express themselves and helps them articulate their issues. This is an important stage in getting help and treatment for anxiety.

Options to treat anxiety

If you are suffering from sustained feelings of unease, worry or negative emotions around a range of circumstances, you could have Generalised Anxiety Disorder.

Anxiety can very easily negatively affect your daily life. If you think this could be the case, you should seek help and speak to your GP. They will be able to provide assistance. Some treatments for anxiety include the following:

  • Psychologies therapies, such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) which you can get through the NHS. This does not require a referral from a GP. You can refer yourself to a psychological therapy service in your local area.
  • Medicine, such as type of antidepressant called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)

Treatment can help people control their anxiety levels but some treatments may need to continue for some time.

Self-Treatment Options

Anxiety can also be treated individually. Although do remember it is still important to talk about your concerns. There are many things you can to reduce your feelings of anxiety.

Exercise is an excellent stress reliever. It can give your mind a chance to switch off and concentrate on a new activity. Additionally, the health benefits can leave you feeling more balanced. Finally, the endorphin rush of exercise is a great way to improve your mood and overcome negative emotions.

Reducing the amount of alcohol and caffeine is another good tip to reduce anxiety. Similarly, quitting smoking has innumerable health benefits, including reducing anxiety. You can find help for quitting smoking on the NHS website.

You can also try one of the many self-help apps developed by the NHS to treat anxiety.
