Safety: It’s Always Been Paramount for Dragonfly.
What are Novel Foods?
A ‘Novel Food’ is classed by the government as being – a newly developed, innovative food; food produced using new technologies and production processes; as well as food which is or has been traditionally eaten outside of the EU.
Novel foods are foods which have not been widely consumed by people in the UK or European Union (EU) before May 1997. This means that the foods don’t have a ‘history of consumption’.
Novel foods need to be authorised before they can be placed on the market in Great Britain.
Is CBD a Novel Food?
CBD was granted Novel Food status in 2019 which meant all CBD products (extracts and isolates) being sold in the UK must apply for authorisation via the Food Standards Agency.

Who are the Food Standards Agency?
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is the independent government department who work to protect public health so that people can trust that the food they buy and eat is safe and honest.
Is Dragonfly CBD Novel Food compliant?
Yes. The FSA announced in March 2022 that Dragonfly had its application for Novel Food authorisation has successfully passed onto the next stage. Dragonfly met all the strict consumer safety, quality and regulatory validation checks and is on the FSA’s published list of compliant CBD products. Dragonfly CBD’s commitment to its customers
Right from the start as a business, our seed to shelf strategy sat at the heart of our Dragonfly CBD – ensuring always that what we were putting on the shelves and online for consumers to buy was the finest organic product, containing the advertised amount of CBD oil; THC-free; has a batch number and use-by date on every pack and compliant with all regulatory frameworks.
We’re proud to be multi award winning and the first CBD oil to be stocked by Boots.
The Dragonfly Farm producing the finest organic CBD oil
In the shadow of the sweeping Balkan mountains, our farmers sow Cannabis Sativa L. seeds on organically certified land, beginning the meticulous 9 month process to make every single Dragonfly CBD product.
From March to October, each plant is carefully nurtured using natural and organic farming techniques, completely pesticide free, harnessing practices that have been in place for nearly a century. Last year, we were awarded a Global GAP certification which simply means we’re pretty good at farming.
Inspiration for our name comes from the beautiful dragonflies that hover over the farm’s fields.
